[0.00] Cloudsoft’s Monterey Middleware is a patented application delivery platform that simplifies the development, deployment and management of scalable distributed applications.

In this example the application is a distributed stock exchange, deployed onto a network of machines spanning three datacenters around the globe. Monterey is designed for such stateful, high-throughput applications that must process high transaction volumes with consistent low latency.

[0.30] At the top of the screen is the traders’ view, showing the portfolio of instruments in the exchange along with their current order books of unsatisfied “bids” and “asks”, updated in real time as orders are placed.

Beneath this, the Monterey Management Console provides administrators with a detailed view inside the runtime platform, showing the distribution of demand for the individual instruments and where that demand is being serviced.

[0.55] Cloudsoft’s patented technology enables fast, fine-grained application mobility, which is the ability to change some or all of the infrastructure that an application is using in real-time and without any disruption of service to end-users.

The Monterey platform continually monitors the running application and dynamically optimises resource usage through automated policies that can be tailored to specific business needs.

[1.19] Here, our “follow-the-sun” policy migrates application segments to be geographically near the majority of demand for them, dramatically cutting the network latency experienced by users of the service.

At no time do end-users experience any disruption to the service they are using; the infrastructure changes are enacted without requiring that the application be paused or restarted. And because no trader’s orders are dropped or rejected, the exchange does not lose any business.
